Donna, This is stunning. This sumi-e figure – you have no idea what it means to me. There’s a control…a letting go of control… you have to flow into it…

    • Merrill, I do believe you’ve almost written a haibun, not only about sumi-e but about the haibun form itself!

(Sumi-e is something that has long attracted my interest, to ponder, not to do myself. Yet, these days I feel a pull to try “my hand”.) ~ Donna

Donna, I don’t think in words. I think in the flow of life through me. Sumi-e is able to do that much better than words could ever do. To me the words are cumbersome. There’s always so much to explain all the time after you’ve said it in the first place with words. There’s nothing to explain in a sumi-e … ipse dixit! I do recommend studying it… I learned it so young… but with age and infirmity the strength has left me. One thing about sumi-e it never lies…. it reveals a great deal to those who are trained in an empathetic movement with the stroke.
