Israelis brand selves in solidarity with animals – Associated Press

Associated Press – One of 11 animal rights activists branded with numeral 269 in Prague, Czech Republic, 6.26.13. Animal rights activists from 269 Life movement  adopted the act of human branding to raise awareness about animal rights. The movement  launched with a public branding in Tel Aviv last year and has since mushroomed around the world, with brandings held in Italy, the U.S., Argentina and beyond. The group’s name is derived from a number branded on a calf that activists saw at an Israeli dairy farm last year. (AP Photo/Petr David Josek)

The New Jazz Workshop

The New Jazz Workshop the jazz band co-founded by Dezron Douglas(bass) and Lummie Spann(saxophones) is a new band that should be on every jazz players radar. Josh Evans a rising star on the trumpet is featured as were David Bryant on piano and Chris Beck on drums. Surely a band to keep an eye, and ear, on.   – John Braithwaite

TAME AS BROKEN, by Scarecrow

TAME AS BROKEN

i.

Chained to the wall of the universe.  Waiting for civilization

to come to civilization.  This rage of mortality.

This turbulence of want.

This howl of meat.

Burning meat.  Robot blood.

Carnival atmosphere.

This last glass of wine.

ii.

Flip a switch for daylight

and listen to the machinery groan.

The rhythm is off.

Loud and clear.

iii.

The very wheat does tremble.

MMXXXIII. Haybun of Orphans by John Bloomberg-Rissman / otoliths

After thwarted attempts to post the following at Otoliths, here’s my response for John Bloomberg-Rissman —

Feels to me it’s a grand migration of haibun. Your bun of hay is a far better ecolibrium than pill, with far more original seed pods openingflying  from the emptyness at the end of each word, each beginning.  – Donna Fleischer

word pond

… and then it came to me that all those isolated words are orphans in their way, that we (words and people) all derive our meaning and significance from our ecosystems/contexts etc etc.”  – John Bloomberg-Rissman
