“We will need writers who can remember freedom”: Ursula K Le Guin at the National Book Awards | parker higgins dot net
Ursula K. Le Guin
Right now, I think we need writers who know the difference between the production of a market commodity and the practice of an art. Developing written material to suit sales strategies in order to maximize corporate profit and advertising revenue is not quite the same thing as responsible book publishing or authorship. (Thank you, brave applauders.)

Books, you know, they’re not just commodities. The profit motive often is in conflict with the aims of art. We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art—the art of words.

Love her mind. Thanks for sharing this, Donna.
Cheers, Wendy. She did not betray her relationship with her self, which is where I think selling out begins . . . Take care, Donna
Yes, a good point. I agree, and believe she has always been true to her belief in herself and her vision, which is difficult to do when one is unsure of their talent or ability in any field, but especially so for an artist or creator. Cheers to you, and hope you have a peaceful holiday. 🙂
