On Thanksgiving Day, 2019, Bob Arnold, one of America’s truly great contemporary poets, Longhouse publisher in Vermont, andA Longhouse Birdhouse blogger, began a sharing of videos of many poets reading. As an introduction to this beguiling series for citizens, Bob Arnold wrote this:

Rejoice! Thanksgiving

wanderers, scallawags, saints
to five days of celebrating
poetry on the Birdhouse
with an offering
hour by hour
to balance the menu
of presidential impeachment
where we must endure
the sending in of the clowns ~
let us then follow up
and send in the poets!
I’m sharing the poets in this series whom I love most and begin it with Forrest Gander . . . – Donna Fleischer, for word pond

“There’s going to be a world
where the imagination is created
by joy not suffering,
a man and a woman
can love each other again
they can kiss and fuck again
(a woman’s going to come along
and make this world for me
even though I’m not
alive anymore).”

President Obama, as he paused to look back at the crowd before going into the Capitol.

“I’m not going to see this again.” (President Barack H Obama) / A Longhouse Birdhouse

Our president holds up the mirror so that we may better see our selves, each and all of us, “we the people” who make up this United States. ~ Donna Fleischer
