galileo, a poem at The Trouble with Bartleby

galileo

actively avoiding staying at rest
the inertial anathema of this
desperate vector

crossing a river flowing at x miles per hour
you, and your canoe
seek to land on my opposite shore

I don’t envy this metaphysics
nor its cartesian antecedents:

come, lover, my mouth is a life raft
breathe into and find a soft animal
wearing pineapple, a
collapsed sardine in your arms
scapula pliant, an
edible
skeleton
