Noted jazz saxophonist, flutist, composer and arranger, Jimmy Greene, a native of Bloomfield, CT, started out studying and learning improvization as a 15-year-old with legendary alto saxophonist and teacher, Jackie McLean, at the Artists Collective, a community school in Hartford, CT. He has played with the Horace Silver Quintet, Avishai Cohen, the Jason Lindner Big Band, the Omer Avital Sextet, and has toured with the Harry Connick Jr Big Band. In the late 1990s Greene played Small’s, the all-night Greenwich Village basement club, absorbing the different streams of jazz that converged there. Greene is returning to Connecticut from a three-year stint as a college professor in Manitoba to teach jazz full time at Western Connecticut State University at Danbury. ~ Donna Fleischer
