A 25-foot inflatable balloon of Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-Mass.) dog, Bailey, made an appearance on the presidential campaign trail in Iowa on Friday as part of a growing bid to name him “First Dog.
“Bailey has been a staple on Warren’s social media accounts since the senator received the dog last July as a surprise gift from her husband, Bruce Mann.
The pup frequently joins her in traveling for her 2020 bid, and there is even a text alert system through her presidential campaign to get frequent photos of the golden retriever.
The pooch is named after George Bailey, the community banker in the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

A new species combining wolves, coyotes and dogs is evolving before scientists’ eyes in the eastern United States. Wolves faced with a diminishing number of potential mates are lowering their standards and mating with other, similar species, reported The Economist. The interbreeding began up to 200 years ago, as European settlers pushed into southern Ontario and cleared the animal’s habitat for farming and killed a large number of the wolves that lived there. . . . .

“Walden Pond received. I’d read a few pages when I remembered that Margaret Callahan had sent me a copy when I first lived at The Rock. I was only able to read a few pages of it and laid it aside. There is something about wisdom that has never engaged me. Folly is funnier — and vice more fun. An awful confession to finally have to make.
I will read on in Walden though this time — but so far page after page of bon mots (though in marvelous English) gets me to saying, “Oh, blow it out your ass!” and I lay the book down and reach for another box of Cracker Jacks (they each have a prize in them, you know).”
